Yeah yeah, some people would say that honor belongs to milk. My opinion? Milk-smilk! Stale peeps have it all over ever other food… except possibly Nutella.
A few weeks ago Hubby bought a load of 90% off Easter candy. Included were a few packages of peeps were included in that haul. I immediately opened the packs to air out, and promptly forgot about them.
Hubby and I went away for the weekend (the infamous hair convention) and when I got home, I had the super pleasant surprise of stale marshmallow peeps!
Made with sugar and corn syrup (yum!), fairly low in calories, marshmallow peeps change consistency when dry. When soft and fluffy, they are like a sugary marshmallow (as opposed to a non-sugary marshmallow I guess). But, when allowed to dry out and go “stale” they take on a chewier consistency. Hubby compared it to marzipan treats he once had in Italy, without the high price.
Whatever, all I know is this is the food of the gods! But only in its stale form. Fresh and fluffy peeps? Just not for me.
Do you have any er, odd, candy likes? Do you doctor-up a candy in some way to make it more palatable? Details please!

I was just saying how the chocolate in candy is way too sweet now. I have taken to making my own candy lately. I adore chocolate and peanut butter so I have been making these trail bars with oatmeal, chocolate, and peanut butter. I know I could put more stuff in there like some old healthy cranberries or some crap but where is the fun in that?

LOL Yeah who needs all those healthy-ingredients messing with the taste!

Funny.. this is exactly what Don does to peeps.. but he lets them dry out longer.. closer to 3-4 months.. I always thought that was just darn weird, but hey.. to each their own.. He wont touch them if they’re fresh.. funny guy.
I tend to like candy corn after its been “aged” a bit.. but I like it fresh too.. Its all good to me!

Hmmmm 3-4 months? I’m not sure I could hold out that long. I’ll give it a go next year though.

I’ll have to try stale, dried out peeps. I never buy peeps, ’cause I haven’t liked them, but I’ll give dry ones a try next time on clearance. Who knew!
Me, flat Coke Zero. Rarely drink coke, but when I do I prefer it flat. Unless I am drinking it with Johnnie Walker Black. Then the bubbles are ok, but I actually really do prefer 7UP with my JW Black.

LOL Patti… yeah I like bubbles with my rum too.

My 78 year old mother loves stale peeps. She does the same thing you do Ann, buys them on super bargain, cuts them open and waits for them to get stale. I’ve never understood this but she’ll be tickled to find she’s not the only one who does this.

YAY! I am in good company!
