Natural Skincare: Avocado Mask Recipes
Avocados are extremely beneficial for your skin. They are packed with vitamins to naturally nurture your skin. The good fats of the avocado will hydrate and moisturize dry skin.
Caring for your skin with all-natural products you have at home is not only favorable for your face, but also for your budget. Beauty products advertised as natural can be expensive. Instead of purchasing an expensive beauty product with ingredients, you can’t even pronounce, try a less expensive alternative like an avocado mask. By going with all-natural ingredients, you can rest assured you know exactly what you are putting on your skin.
What should I look for in an Avocado?
You want an avocado that is ripe. It should be firm and slightly soft when you gently press into it. Too hard indicated is it unlikely to be ripe, while too soft may mean your avocado is overripe. If the skin is really dark and wrinkly, most likely it’s old.
You want to use your avocado immediately after cutting it. If you leave it out it will oxidize and turn brown, so plan on immediate use.
How to use an avocado in my skincare regimen
The creamy texture of the avocado makes it perfect for homemade facial masks. You can use a mini food processor (use pulse) or simply use a fork to mash the avocado until it forms a paste. Use your avocado alone or combined with other nutrition-packed natural ingredients such as honey, oil, bananas, papaya, or ground oatmeal. These are just a few of the items that can be used in combination with an avocado to make a raw facial mask.
Here are a few avocado recipes you can try. Remember to always use a ripe avocado. Make certain you avoid the eye area. And the first time you use any new mask do a small skin test on the soft underside of your arm before slapping the mask on your face. That way, if you are allergic to an ingredient, if something irritates your skin, you are finding out in an area no one will see, as opposed to your face.
