With the weather we’ve had the last two weeks, I am shocked these pictures aren’t of mushrooms! Again hot and cold weather with little in between, but what has been worse is the amount of rain! Last week, our CSA reported 5″ in two days, and they are again reporting too much rain this past week! Looking at my waterlogged backyard, I can’t disagree with the “too much” assessment at all.
Apparently the plants disagree though! I have never seen that tree in full bloom like it is now!
The blackberry bush is gigantic and it has fruit-buds all over it. There were a few shoots from the thorned blackberry bush that came back, but not too many. I worried not having a second bush would stunt this one’s growth, but so far so good!
The “formerly dead” bush just keeps on flowering! It is mighty purdy! I wish I knew what it was.
Up front the giant bush has some orange flowers,
And the lilies have formed buds.
I bought this black eyed Susan trellis because I thought it was cool. It has grown tremendously in the last few weeks, and just keeps producing more flowers.
We had our grass aerated and the cores left behind looked so much like doggie leftovers, that I couldn’t pick up after Max this past week. No, I am not kidding. Hopefully the rain dissolved most of his leavings, because even though the cores are starting to breakdown, I still can’t tell the difference. Needless to say we walk gingerly over the grass right now.
So, how does your garden grow? Are you planting one this year? Sticking with a CSA? A flower or herb garden perhaps? What’s happening in your green-world?

A lot of rain here in TN and a lot of heat. The grass is growing the fastest. Anything I planted by seed had been bug food. 30+ carrots down to 9. 9 various peppers down to 4 (bought 5 bell pepper plants and transplanted the other day). Purple cone flower starting to bloom and the dianthus is starting to fade. Discovered I didn’t have cucumber seeds so I may just let my neighbor across the street be my supplier. I’m up in the air about planting the broccoli, cabbage and lettuce seeds.
As for the lemon balm, I rubbed some on my grandson and the mosquitoes left him alone. However, when he got itchy (he’s 3 and a tasty morsel for the skeeters) he went over to my spiraea bush and plucked off leaves and rubbed them on his arms. Maybe that wasn’t a good idea. Hope he doesn’t do that at home and break out in a rash.

Yikes, I hope he’s ok. Marie. Sounds like that lemon balm is a real keeper.
Everything is so darned green around here – looks like a tropical rain forest. I had the sprinklers opened today (bwahahaaha!) and the sprinkler guy was commenting on our super weird spring weather this year. I couldn’t disagree.

Mine grows like a rice paddy today… sigh.. I went to my garden for a few minutes early in the week to put some tomato cages out & we sunk in the soil.. And then we’ve gotten a lot more rain.. Its insane. The plants however havent drowned at all and are doing really well.. They seem to be quite happy!
Nothing has really changed from last week.. except more rain… ack!
Ann says
Yeah I squished into the grass today. It has rained a lot the past week, but apparently the grass is totally saturated, and just can’t hold anymore.

Ann I think your “dead” bush is a weigela. Can’t be sure, but the leaves look like mine. Mine is done flowering this year, but yours could just be a different variety.

Thanks Barb!

Did not do a vegetable garden this year. We are trying to buy a house in town and are so close to finalizing that a garden would of been for nothing cause we are renting right now. Flowers are really going to town for this time of year though. Love your black eyed susan vine!
Ann says
Good luck with the close, Michele!

I was in the garden this morning and I had a thought about your berries.
I don’t think I ever mentioned this but keep an eye out for rogue sprouts. Sometimes several feet a way from the parent plant, runners suddenly shoot up wild canes.
Shouldn’t be a serious problem-but you should be aware.
Enjoy those berries! Mine are all coming in sour this year. Every year there is a surprise for me. 🙂
Ann says
You did Barbee, and I thank you for the advice. I decided not to plant a second bush this year, and wait to see if any old thorned shoots pop up instead.
