Since it has been so quiet on Ann’s Entitled Life this week, I am guessing a lot of people are out of town, extending the 4th of July weekend to a week-long event! For those of us left behind…
What are your 4th of July Plans?
The Ann’s Entitled Life household will be “enjoying” a full day of flooring renovations. Our hardwood floor installer told me he was planning on working tomorrow provided we had no plans to have people over.
Oh. My. Goodness. As if!
This place is a total disaster. We have 10 rooms, a full four are being renovated, and five of the other six are packed to the walls with furniture and dodads from those other four rooms. I swear it is going to take me longer to post the pictures and chronicle the process than the experience.
Our flooring guy budgeted two weeks for our project, and if he finishes today (hahahaha) he will be on time. We brought in my nephew to pull up the parquet floor in the family room yesterday, and he got it 2/3 done. Hubby got another portion done last night, and the rest needs to come up today if this project has any hope of being finished by the weekend. He will work Saturday too to get it done. I am pretty sure he is scheduled to begin another project on Monday.
We also have our CSA pick-up tomorrow. Judging by their blog post Monday, I was wrong last week, there will be produce on Thursday!
So, What are your 4th of July Plans?

I will be doing a cleaning job for a friend tomorrow morning and hope to grill some hot dogs later. The crazy neighbors here on my street set off fireworks so I will watch them as well. But I will be pooped after cleaning so plan to relax a bit.
Ann says
You own private fireworks display! Sounds great, Debb (not the cleaning, the fireworks).

I’ll be enjoying a little Schadenfreude due to my hub not doing the gas line installation in the Winter when I was accused of being selfish and nagging… so now he has to wait for the Summer tenants to go for dinner, beach or shopping so he can finish it up in the sweltering heat. He could even have done it Saturday when I was scrubbing up the French door fridge/freezer from the winter renters mess, but he felt obliged to relax and let me do the work. Mmmmm, a nice tall glass of seltzer, a glass of red, and some sun on my gloating face while I enjoy my well earned 4 day break! Life is this B-e-ach. Like I say to the kids, do the homework first, so you can REALLY enjoy the time off.

We have family reunion every July 4th at Noon, so that is where we will be, rain or shine. Unfortunately, my darling husband decided that we need to go to the drive-in tonight since they are playing both of the movies that he wants to see this summer (Despicable Me 2 and Monster U). That means I have to pack the van full of snacks and comfort items for the kids, as well as their pj’s, then unload all of that in the morning (I’m guessing after four hours of sleep!), make our dish-to-pass, re-pack the van with everything for the reunion AND, since my husband was on a roll, he decided we should leave directly from the reunion and head to our “camp” (a shack in the PA hills) for three nights, so I have all of that stuff to pack too! I really shouldn’t be on-line right this minute, but I’m so annoyed that I’m putting off all the work…
Hope everyone else has a great 4th and a fun weekend! Say a prayer for my sanity, LOL!

The Lockport drive in! I saw that playing there when we drove by this morning, and told Hubby I wanted to go. He vetoed that idea. ๐

We live literally around the corner from a drive-in (a three minute walk away!), but we’ve never been there. We go to Silver Lake in Perry. Charcoal-Corral-Silver-Lake-Twin-Drive-In/110521318984461 They have a really cute ice cream shop, a restaurant, a nice enough pizza parlor, and a very nice mini-golf course. There is also an event calendar, like Thursday’s are car shows, weekends have bounce houses, that sort of thing. We really are spoiled in this part of the country to have choices for drive-ins since there are so few left (PA, NY, and Ohio have the most); they are a real piece of Americana, in my opinion. There used to be over 4,000, but now there are fewer than 400.
Ann says
Yeah I think there are two left in the area, none in Erie county. ๐

I love the idea of going to the Drive In.. I havent been to one in probably close to 30 years, though there is one about 20 miles from us that I think is still functioning.. Decided to looksee… We have 2 “not too far” from here.. One in Chardon (20ish miles) and one in Kent/Ravenna.. I wonder if I could talk M’honey into going sometime.. He might be game.. but I aint holdin my breath. ๐

Forecast is predicting rain all day. No morning parade, no cookouts and no fireworks. But we’ll be hoping. The parade blocks downtown so we watch it when it is broadcast on out local TV station…if there is one. The grill rusted, so none of that. But if they do have the fireworks, I can see them from my front porch. So, no matter what, rain or no rain, looks like we’re not leaving the house. No biggie, we stay in every year anyway. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Ann says
Hopefully that rain cloud passes you by and you get your fireworks, Marie.

I do like fireworks and I love not having to fight the traffic afterwards. But we have an 80% chance of rain tomorrow. And it’s raining here now. We’ve had a wet June here too. Over 9″ for June and we beat the record for the wettest June of all time.
KimH says
We dont have any plans of yet for the 4th.. I imagine that we’ll grill a few steaks, sausages & burgers and find some local firework displays since our county has oodles of displays every year.. Sometimes, we’ve sat on the side of the road on overpasses to watch & you can see 3 different ones going off at the same time.. But, to do that, we ride the motorcycle and its motor is apart at the moment… so that wont happen.
In the past we’ve got to friends & families who live next to areas where they’re going off but I dont think we’ll do that either.. I guess I just have to wait & see what the man decides he wants to do.. (rolling my eyes) Hmn.. I wonder if any of his buddies with boats are planning on going out on the water for fireworks.. I think I’d like to do that this year.. I’ll have to ask. ๐
Ann says
Supposedly there are fireworks surrounding me tonight and tomorrow. I hope we get to see some!

I might do some gardening if it is tolerable outside. That’s it!
Ann says
You can come pull weeds at my house, Tatiana! I’ll even serve you a burger and something from my giant liquor cabinet stash. ๐
Ann
TB says
Be careful what you wish for, Ann! Next thing you know you have a full blown garden instead of the weeds!
Ann says
EEEEKK!!
We went out to play kick the ball with Max this evening, and I think I’ll be out in the yard tomorrow morning too… after a heavy dose of Benadryl that is.

Happy 4th!
After 6 mos. of heavy work load, almost weekly travel, graduations, weddings, parties of all sorts & guests we are doing nada. Maybe a movie in a cool theatre & dinner out. That’s all I can work up the gumption to do.
O, besides weed. I find it therapeutic! And man does my garden need it.
Ann says
It sounds like a well deserved nada, Patti.
My garden needs weeding too, but it is raining (again), so that last thing I want to do is play in the mud.
Ann
Debb F says
Ann the day after it rains is the perfect time to weed, and you wont get muddy. The weeds just lift right out too, so much easier! You should try it some time andif you do start to get muddy just quit! Well off to clean ๐ Have a great day Ann!
Ann says
Yup…. but the way things have gone around here lately, the “day after a rainy day” is usually… another rainy day. It’s been bad.
Ann
Michele K says
Sounds like you have a full weekend, wow that is quite the renovation!
We aren’t doing much this year, may go out to mother in laws cabin and help her with repairs around the place. She had “critters” digging under her cabin so we are going to help her put in some wire fence under the cabin so keep them from coming back. The bridge needs some repair from the recent heavy rains. And probably grill out while we are there then maybe go to the fireworks later on. Then husband is back to work for the rest of the weekend, Boo! We usually get fireworks to do at home but not this year. I will miss that when we move to town, which may be in a few weeks.
Ann says
Wire meshing under a foundation… fun times digging that surround. I don’t envy you, Michele, that is going to be awful.
