Strawberry Lemonade Jello Shots Recipe

Jello shots are a very popular party “drink”. Everywhere you turn someone has a Jello shot recipe. But, in a bit of irony, most “Jello” shot recipes are not made with “Jello” (Kraft) at all… they are made with unflavored gelatin, usually Knox (Unilever) or store brand. The Jello shots made with unflavored gelatin rely on the liquor for the taste.

This Jello shot recipe is using flavored Jell-O and lemonade (instead of water) for the flavor. This is a vodka jello shot recipe. Since vodka is pretty flavorless, it is easy to assign a taste to it (look at all the flavored vodkas out these days). That makes vodka the perfect liquor to use with real Jell-O.

Usually, Jello shots are made in Souffle Cup with Lids for transport, or in shot glasses (which allows for rimming the Jello shot). But sometimes, you may want something a little more “interesting” to be the vessel.

Citrus rinds are very common, very easy to make, vessels to hold a Jello shot. While this strawberry lemonade Jello shot recipe uses lemons, if the Jello shot was compatible, you could use limes, oranges, or grapefruits. You could also use a personal watermelon (even though it will be cut down, look for the smallest one possible! Yes, people use large watermelons, but that party better be HUGE to consume all that!). I’ve seen people make Jello shots in large strawberries, hollowed out apples… just about any fruit where you can create a holding vessel that will not lose its shape can be used to hold a Jello shot.

Strawberry Lemonade Jello Shots Ingredients:

● 6 whole Lemons
● 1 cup prepared Lemonade
● 3oz Strawberry Jell-O Mix (the small size)
● 1 cup Vodka

Strawberry Lemonade Jello Shots Mise en Place:

● Medium Pot
● Measuring Cup
● Wooden Spoon or Silicone Spatula
● Cupcake Pan (or muffin tin)
● Knife
● Cutting Board

Strawberry Lemonade Jello Shots Directions:

● Prepare the lemons by cutting them in half, and removing the citrus from inside, just leaving the skin and a little pith.
● Place the lemon skins in a cupcake baking sheet to keep them stable. Set aside.
● Place the lemonade in a small saucepan and heat just a low boil.
● Add in the strawberry Jell-O mix and stir until the Jello mix is dissolved.
● Remove from heat and allow to mixture cool to close to room temperature; approximately 15 minutes.
● Stir in the vodka.

● Pour the strawberry lemonade Jell-O mixture into the prepared lemons.
● Place in refrigerator to set, approximately 6 hours or overnight.

● Serve after set.
● Cut strawberry lemonade Jell-O shots into mouth-sized slices with a sharp knife, and serve.
