This is the diary of our CSA share this year. The cost of a full share is $545 for 22 weeks (this CSA offers a winter share) which will bring us to the last week in October, and works out to $24.75 per week. Western New York weather is such that June is the lightest CSA month. September and October will be more than abundant! Usually, I feel I don’t get my money’s worth the first few weeks (which will be predominantly lettuces), but the fall bags more than makeup for that.
This was a good CSA week for us! I choose what Hubby and I would eat, and got my money’s worth out of this week’s share without tromping in the fields and picking. I thunderstorm-ed last night, so I had no desire to hit the fields and pick stuff we didn’t have time to eat or freeze. Maybe next week I’ll have the time and inclination?
This week we took:
● Arugula
● Cabbage
● Cantaloupe
● Carrots
● Celery
● Lettuce Hearts
● Onions
● Scallions
● Tomatoes
Also available that we didn’t take:
● Beets
● Chard
● Collards
● Kale
● Salad Greens
● Squash
● Zucchini
I also bought free range, organic-feed, brown eggs for $5 again. I have a dozen eggs in my refrigerator, but I will be doing a good deal of baking the next two weeks, and needed more. And I think they are a good deal for the price.
Do you belong to a CSA? If so, what type? How much? Do you find it as worthwhile as I do?

Behind on posting our CSA, but have been enjoying it. The blackberries were as big as quarters and delicious! Loved the fresh corn. WE made a corn, black bean salsa with the fresh corn and fresh tomatoes. Delicious! Can’t wait until Monday and our next CSA pickup. Darn it, we still have one tomato, two small eggplants and a little bit of cucumber left. Tried to make some refrigerator pickles and I don’t think it is quite right yet.

Yum.. that all looks pretty good!! I love fresh food.. We got a pretty nice basket this past Saturday.. I’ve been way too busy to even post it until today.. finally. acrossmypathtoday.blogspot.com/
We got green beans, fingerling potatoes, cauliflower, watermelon, sweet banana peppers that were supposed to be hot ;), a gigantic bell pepper which was some really odd variety.. I’ve never seen one like this before.. it was rather pretty.. we got 5 most gorgeous peaches (of which M’honey has eaten most of), a zuch, a yellow squash, a 3some of beet, and lettuce.. We got a pint of blackberries and 2 nice slicing tomatoes too.
My youngest daughter & I went to one of the Amish farms that is part of our CSA later in the day and I bought a bushel of organic tomatoes & a few more bags of peppers to make pickled pepper rings.. I paid $30 for the tomatoes and liked to have choked on the price but if I’d bought them thru the CSA, I would have paid $40. I wouldnt have bought them at all if my own gardens had produced what they were supposed to.. All I could think of is that I was gonna have to buy commercially made rotel and salsa and I couldnt stand the thought of it.. At least I know what I have now dont have any chemicals in them..
Thank God for the Farmers!
