Flip Flops Door Hanger: Dollar Store Craft
You do not have to use dollar store items for this craft. My niece had this idea, and when she saw all the materials for it available in our local dollar store, it was serendipity!
This is a super-fast craft to make. It took us about 15-minutes to do.
This makes a great wall hanging, classroom decor for teachers, door decor, or as decor for a tropical/Hawaiian party theme.

Tips for Making this Flip Flops Door Hanger: Dollar Store Craft:
● Use odd numbers for the flip flops. It will look better. My next-door neighbor is a psychiatrist and he ago told me that women prefer odd numbers, men prefer even numbers. So, odd numbers it is!
● This is fully customizable to the size of your door. Measure how wide your door is, eyeball how many flip-flops you will need to make the width that will look best, and then go for it. You can make this with all the same color flip flop, only two different designs (alternate), or random flip flops.
● You do not have to put the word Aloha on the flip flop door hanging if you do not want to. Meaning hello and good-bye, it is a natural for a door hanging, but not necessary for the craft.
● Hot glue was used because it dries quickly. If you have a door to the elements, or plan on hanging this in the backyard, you may want to use Marine goop or all weather Goop II Max or at least a waterproof glue It will take much longer to dry, and you will have to hold the flip flops in place, but it will stay together better.
● If you do not want to use leis to hold the flip flop decor… they can be floppy, substitute a ribbon or twine.
● You can use a ruler, paint stick, or scrap wood to stiffen the backs of the flip flop decor. If you do not want to do that, either make this only 3 flip flops or expect it to bow out away from the door.
● You can use any flowers you like. We went with hibiscus due to the tropical feel.
Flip Flops Door Hanger Materials:
● 4 Pair Flip Flops (kids sized, all the same size)
● Lettering (or paper and marker to make letters)
● 2 Leis
● Accent Butterfly
● Hibiscus Floral Bunch
● Letters to Spell Out Aloha. These are scrabble tiles.
● 3 Rulers, Paint Stirrers, or Skims
Flip Flops Door Hanger Tools:
● Low Temp Glue Gun and Hot Glue
Flip Flops Door Hanger Instructions:
1. Layout seven, same-sized, kids-sized flip flops. This is like a puzzle piece.
2. Using a low-temp glue gun, hot glue one side of a flip flop, and attach it to another flip flop. Continue until all seven flip flops are attached. Note: use a low-temp glue gun as a high-temp glue gun might melt the flip flops.
3. Spelling out the word Aloha, start from the second flip flop in on the right, hot glue the A, then the L on the flip flop next to that first flip flop. Next, hot glue the letter O to the middle flip flop. Next, the letter H, and finally the letter A. Make sure these are hot glued to the middle five flip flops with the two flip flops at each end having no letters.
4. To attach the leis, hold up the lies and take the top left of one leis and pull. You are making an X. You are making this X to double up the strength of the lies so they will support the weight of the flip flops.
5. Hot glue one end on each end flip flop, hot glue it behind. The lie looks like a loop with the connection in the middle. You are hot gluing the middle of each loop.
6. Turn over the flip flops door hanger. Space out your flat rulers/stirrer/shims. You are forming a brace, so make sure you stagger these and go across the back. You can double these up if you prefer more strength.
7. Hot glue the rulers/stirrer/shims in place.
8. Turn over your flip flop hanger. Pull off a hibiscus flower from the floral bush and hot glue it on one side of the flip flop decor. If you prefer this to be symmetrical, place a second one on the opposite side!
9. Hot glue one of the butterfly accents below the hibiscus flower. Again, if you are making this symmetrical, place one on the other side too.
10. Hold up your door hanger and shake to make certain nothing is loose.
11. Hang where desired.
