Mardi Gras Gnome DIY
Easy to make, this cute little guy can be made in as little as 15 minutes. Make one, make a dozen – they are cheap and easy enough to make that you could set them next to a place setting as a party favor at your mardi gras table, have a grouping as part of fun centerpieces, or in smaller groupings on the ends of tables as one of your mardi gras centerpieces. I frequently have two or three centerpieces on my longer tables, one in the center of the table and two smaller centerpieces on either end. These are a great idea as they are inexpensive and fun table decor.
My brother and sister-in-law were visiting last week, and we took a trip to New Orleans. While it has changed a little bit since I was last there, one thing has not: New Orleans loves Mardi Gras and all things sparkly, colorful, and ostentatious. Every day is a party, and nearly every weekend has some sort of parade. That city knows how to have a good time!
This extravagant gnome takes that into account with the crazy feathers, wonderful glitter, and beads, beads, beads! These are inexpensive items when you purchase them at your local dollar store or in bulk.
So, get into the mardi gras spirit and do this easy craft project.

Tips and variations for making this Mardi Gras Gnome DIY:
● If worried about the gnome being knocked over easily, you can fill the bottle part the way with rice or clean play sand.
● You can make this mardi gras gnome as over-the-top as you like. Just remember it may fall with more weight on it, so add the sand or rice for stability.
● Elmer’s glue dries clear.
● The glitter should be in traditional purple, green, gold, blue, and silver colors.
● The Mardi Gras beads should be in traditional purple, green, gold, blue, and silver colors.
● The Mardi Gras feather boa should be in traditional green, purple, gold, blue, and silver colors.
● All supplies can be bought at Dollar Tree other than the hot glue gun.

Mardi Gras Gnome DIY Materials
● 1 empty Liter Bottle (washed and label removed)
● Hot Glue Stick
● School Glue
● Feather Boa
● Mardi Gras Beads
● Tan Easter Egg Onion (or large wood bead or pom pom)
● Glitter
● White Beard Hair (or white yarn)
Mardi Gras Gnome DIY Tools:
● Scissors
● Hot Glue Gun
● Q-tip
Mardi Gras Gnome Directions:
1. Using the Q-tip, cover about 1/3 of the side of the bottle with school glue. Then cover in glitter and allow to fully dry. The glue will run down slightly and that’s ok. Just helps bleed the colors into each other for a more unique look.
2. Cut a triangle-shaped piece from the beard.
3. Then fold the top raw edge over and glue it in place.
4. Then glue the hair to the bottle matching the top with the top of the glitter line.
5. Take the boa and wrap it around the bottle starting at the top of the beard/glitter line. Work your way up to the top of the bottle gluing it in place as you go. Glue the end inside the top of the bottle.
6. Now pull off one of the Easter egg onions and glue it in place in the top center of the beard to make a nose.
7. Take the beads and cut them, so it is an open strand. Tuck the end under the feathers and glue. Then wrap/drape the beads around the bottle gluing here and there to hold them in place. I also allowed some to hang down over the beard. If needed, you can glue the end into the top of the bottle as well.
8. Display as desired.
