I swear Hubby and I haven’t filed on time since we got married. “Extension” has become my middle name. We thought we’d have a shot at it this year – Hubby scanned a lot of stuff before we left for Florida, and had every intention of getting them to our accountant so we could file by the 15th, buuuuuut things aren’t going as well we’d hoped. Hubby has been wrapped up in renovations at the condo, leaving little time for anything else.
The good news is that our condo renovation list for this year is nearly finished. Hubby’s on his last set of doors, and we have one more closest to do, and then we are done for this year. My parents were supposed to be headed down on Sunday, but my father isn’t feeling up to it. I thought that might give Hubby some time to do our taxes, but when he spoke to the accountant yesterday, he said “extension” for us, and he’d get his mother’s tax stuff to the accountant instead (he has power of attorney for his mom).
And after I gave him all of MY tax-stuff too! (I usually wait until the last minute to deliver the goods.)
I’ll revisit this subject in a month, but for right now I have to ask… are your taxes done!? or are we the only ones filing April 15th (or beyond?)

I am done but have not yet filled. I want to go over them again before I make them official. I wish my hubby was organized enough to use an accountant, but no one would want to do them with the way he keeps his receipts. However, I must admit that this year was not as bad as I imagined they would be. We even had uneven estimated payments. Which means having to fill out a form to annualize your income. I really thought that would be worse than it was. Although Turbo Tax showed me I had a fine due of only $6 without it. I had imagined much worse that $6!

Good for you, Shell – a $6 fine is nothing. And an accountant is great, Shell, but last year either NYS or Utah dinged us and we had a big fine and penalty (the wrong state was paid the tax owed, and the other state that really was due the tax wanted their money). This was the accountant’s mistake. The good news though, was he appealed and it got waived.

No, not exactly.
We have delivered the ‘goods’ to my HRBlock professional, but we haven’t had the completed forms filed.
We rarely use a pro, only when we have something really complex or off the wall. It’s our thought that if the IRS sees something ‘unusual’ or ‘out of character’, we need to have HRBlock’s signature to lend that extra level of credibility to that filing.
HRBlock hasn’t used the term: ‘extension’ …yet. We’ll know more next week.
Happy Spring!

Good luck, Barbee!
