Tips and variations for making this DIY floating spoon flower craft:

● Use any color plastic spoon.

● The tealights used must be Waterproof Floating Tea Lights

● Use waterproof glue so that your flowers will not fall apart when you place them in the water. It takes some patience to wait while the glue dries, in the end, it is worth the few extra seconds of time. I linked to a few types of waterproof glues that will bond plastic. Some choices: Gorilla Clear Grip Contact Adhesive, Loctite Clear Silicone Waterproof Sealant or Marine Goop (my favorite!)

● Felt was used in this craft. The wet felt is what will keep your waterproof tea lights on.

DIY Floating Spoon Flowers Materials:

● Felt
● Waterproof Floating Tea Lights
● Clear Waterproof Glue that will work on plastic. Some choices: Gorilla Clear Grip Contact Adhesive, Loctite Clear Silicone Waterproof Sealant or Marine Goop (my favorite!)
● Plastic Spoons (8 spoons per flower)

● Scissors

DIY Floating Spoon Flowers Directions:

● Cut a circle of felt the same size as the bottom of your tea light. The tea lights used in this craft had to be wet to activate, so make sure if your tea lights also need to be wet to turn on that you do not cover up the felt all the way. The wet felt is what will keep the tea lights on.
● Glue the felt to the bottom of the tea light.
● Cut two 1-inch by 1-inch squares of felt for each floating spoon flower you are making.

● Cut the handles from the 8 plastic spoons using scissors. Do NOT try to cut all the way through the spoon handle or the spoons will crack. Make a groove in the handle where you want to “cut”, and then gently snap along the line, which will cleanly remove the handle.

● Arrange 4 spoons in a cross pattern with the rounded side down. Glue to one of the pieces of felt (see photo) and allow to dry.

● Glue the other four spoons to the other piece of felt. Allow the craft to dry.
● Arrange the second spoon “petals” so they fit between the first set of spoons. (Turn to fit)

● Glue the felt bottom of the tea light (and the tea light with it of course) to the center of the spoon circle and allow the craft to dry.

● When the glue from the flowers is completely dry, place the floating flowers in a bowl of water or a pool. When the water touches the bottom of the tea light, the lights will turn on and your flowers will glow!

You could use these in a centerpiece, float them in shallow buckets for a party, your pond, your pool… anywhere you can fit them on water.
