Patriotic Gnome Decor DIY – Great for 4th of July
Get ready to celebrate the 4th of July with a unique and fun craft project – make your own 4th of July Gnome! This DIY project is easy to make and requires minimal supplies. With just a few materials, you can create a festive gnome that will be the perfect addition to any Independence Day celebration or patriotic celebration!
These patriotic gnomes are not suitable for the garden or outdoor weather. However, this adorable Uncle Sam gnome is great for tabletop decor and can be used as part of a centerpiece decoration or as a stand-alone on a tabletop.
Tips and variations for making this patriotic gnome craft:
● Make sure your plastic cup is clean and dry.
● If worried about the gnome being knocked over easily, you can fill the cup part the way with rice or clean play sand.
● There is a free hat pattern needed to make Uncle Sam’s had. It is available in pdf and png file formats – no zip file, or SVG file necessary – for you to print out and use.
● You may want to consider using a low temp heat gun to glue onto the plastic cup.
● If you have patriotic or red, white, and blue applique designs that are appropriate for this special day, you can use them on the cap, especially if you are making a few gnomes and would like them to look a little different.
● You should be able to find all craft supplies at a dollar store, other than the large plastic disposable coffee cup and a hot glue gun.
● Materials for this patriotic gnome can be purchased online or at your local JoAnn, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby.

Patriotic Gnome Directions:
1. Cut a strip of the blue fabric that is large enough to cover halfway up the cup and be able to fold inside the cup by about ¼-inch. Then use hot glue to glue it in place. Try to keep it nice and tight so there are no wrinkles.
2. Cut the hat template out then cut the center out of the template.
3. Place the cutout template on the red felt and pin it in place. Then cut out the felt around the template. Then carefully cut the center hole out. We will be using that round center later to make sure it is cut out in one piece.
4. Cut out 3 strips of white and 3 strips of red felt that are about an inch wide. Then cut those strips in half. Depending on the size of your cup you may need more or less, or longer strips. The half strips need to be long enough to reach from the top of the blue fabric to the top/bottom of the cup.
5. Use hot glue to glue the strips to each other slightly overlapping. You want to alternate red and white. When done, it needs to be able to wrap all the way around the cup.
6. Use hot glue to glue the red and white stripes to the cup. Glue just slightly over the top of the blue fabric.
7. Now use the scissors to trim off any extra. Then fold the felt over and glue it to the top/bottom of the cup. Then take that felt red circle and glue it over the top of the ends.
8. Carefully slide the red cutout felt down over the stripes. Glue in place right where the stripes and blue fabric come together to make a hat brim.
9. Cut a piece of the blue ribbon long enough to go all the way around the cup. Glue it in place over the red felt hat brim.
10. Cut a piece of fake fur in kind of a triangle shape. It needs to be large enough to go from under the brim to the bottom of the cup. Glue in place.
11. Glue the wood bead to the center of the beard just under the brim of the hat.
12. The last step is to glue stars onto the blue ribbon. My stars are pinkish red on one side and silver on the other. I glued them so the sliver is showing. Try to space them evenly.
13. Display as desired.
