Hubby goes on spurts it seems. We can go for months without a Crap My Hubby Says moment, and then suddenly there is a plethora or qualifying material. Last week he had this beauty…
Hubby walked over the throw something in the garbage can. Next thing you know I hear, “Hey! what are you throwing out those ketchup packets for?”
So I rationally responded, “We already have 12 in the fridge.”
To which Hubby replied, “SO!?!? My goal is to never have to pay for ketchup or soy sauce again!!”
Hubby’s shares with all of you his tip of the day: whenever you get take-out, make sure you get plenty of condiments, that way you never, ever have to pay for them.
SMH Apparently Hubby never heard of couponing.
We bought a container of soy sauce later that night at The Fresh Market. Next time we go to the store, we’ll pay the two bucks for a bottle of ketchup. I’ll let Hubby know we can afford it.

There are lots of people who do this, also with napkins. My thoughts are that it is likely cheaper in the long run to buy them with coupons because you pay for them in the price of the food. It will go up if everyone stocked their kitchen this way. McDonald’s already has a sign up that you must now pay for extra condiments.
Ann says
I noticed that sign in a McDonald’s on our trip down south, Shell. Is that a national thing?

I don’t know if it is for sure, but I think it is. I have seen it in a few states so far.

It all started when we used to get Taco Bell takeouts. You just took the packets yourself. Well at the time I always said let’s take a few extra incase we ever run out at home. Well that soon led to every other place too. Tatar sauce, Chineese places and everywhere else. Pretty soon a had a storage cabinet in my pantry with labeled drawers, ketchup, relish, soy…etc. the years went on and I kept filling those drawers but never using any of it. This one day I said this is crazy and filled this huge bag and out to the curb it when. Really how long do those packet keep fresh. Further more I hate it when you are out and have to open 10 bags of ketchup, so why would I want to do it at home!!
Ann says
Wow Faith! That is some story. And, I am with you on the opening 10 packets of something…

Ha! My husband used to keep the TV dinner containers. We never used them so I am not sure why?!? I secretly threw them away, he may not even know.
Ann says
Ok, so what you are telling me is I should be grateful it is only ketchup and soy sauce packets, huh, Stephanie? I’d love to know what your husband planned to do with those tv dinner containers…
Ann
Stephanie Daigneault says
I think he thought they could be used again somehow to eat on? But I find it better not to ask! haha
Ann says
Smart, Stephanie! I wouldn’t ask either.

Funny… I hate all those packets of crap.. they just irritate me to be honest. I have a container in my frig full of them.. I get happy & throw them all out every once in a while.. except the bronco berry sauce from Arby’s and soy sauce.. Everything else can go.. it all fills back up though.. sigh.. at least it doenst fill up like it used to with 4 teenagers at home.. it overflowed in its day.. 😉 Its great to have a few on hand if you accidentally run out of ketchup, sugar, or soy sauce… but really.. in my opinion there are deeper issues/problems at hand here.
Ann says
If he brought home Arby’s Horsey Sauce, I’d keep those! Heck, I would use those! The rest? I’d with you, Kim, they annoy the snot out of me.
LOL I keep tellin’ ya, Hubby doesn’t have issues, he has volumes. Good thing for him I like to collect volumes.
Ann
KimH says
Thats right.. volumes.. I dont know why I keep forgetting that. 😉

When my husband was working at his garage along with my Dad and both sons, they would get takeout every day. Those packets came home to a cardboard box in the pantry. And we used them them all up. When we closed the business, and I had to pay for ketchup, no one is interested in it! But we still bring home McDonalds strawberry jelly that my husband loves so much that he’s known to eat it straight out of the packet.
Ann says
Wow! I wonder who makes McDonald’s jelly that your husband likes it so much, Marie?
Ann
Marie says
If we ever find out, there would be jars of it in the pantry, I’m sure.
