This is the diary of our 2015 CSA share. The cost of our full share is $545 for 22 weeks, from June through October, and works out to $24.75 per week. Western New York weather is such that June is lightest CSA month. September and October will be more than abundant! The first few weeks are light, and very, very leafy. As we move to the fall, the CSA becomes more abundant, and the variety increases greatly.
We also purchased a Fruit Share this year for $180, lasting 18 weeks which works out to $10 per week. The local fruit included in the fruit share starts with cherries, apricots, plums, peaches, nectarines, blueberries, and moves into pears, raspberries and of course apples! This portion of the share begins in July.
I can’t believe it is CSA-time already! The first 6 months of 2015 have been crazy for the Ann’s Entitled Life household. In addition to our time at our condo, planning and going on our trip to Europe, Hubby got home from Vegas last night. His mother is has been ill for a month, and does not seem to be improving. As soon as Hubby got over the cold he had (and so sweetly gave me), he hopped on a plane to go visit her for a few days.
I am hoping his mom improves, and things settle down. Max has one more (we think) chemo treatment, and I am hoping that is the most excitement we have the rest of this year!
Now on to the topic at hand…
The beginning CSA shares in WNY are rather leafy. I’ll start to twitch my nose like a rabbit in a few weeks! Green, green, green and more green is the order of CSA business for the next few weeks. Things will start to diversity fairly quickly, but the first few weeks will be lettuce heavy.
2015 CSA Share Week 1
Head Lettuce
Leaf Lettuce
Bok Choy
Salad Radishes
Broccoli Raab
Salad Greens
I paid $2 for the rhubarb. Hubby wanted to locate some this year (I still haven’t convinced him to plant any), and I figured, “Why not!?”
Do you belong to a CSA? If so, what type? How much? Do you find it as worthwhile as I do?

Hey Hey!! How is Ann? The past year has been one crazy ride.. Im with you.. I cant believe its time to start our CSA again already! I never had a year fly by so quickly…
Last Saturday I picked up our first CSA share.. it was pretty nice considering it was a medium share. I really think it was the same size as last years large share the first week.
I pick up share 2 tomorrow.. looking forward to seeing what we have.
I love having rhubarb in my yard.. it just looks lovely.. I have one bed next to my neighbors garage that is full of rhubarb, strawberries, blueberries & my fig tree that thankfully is coming back from that booger of a winter we had this year. Everything is growing like gangbusters.

Hi Kim, long time no see!
I am still jealous of your fig tree, and now you add the rhubarb!? Shesh. I am gonna come picking i your yard. I JUST planted my annuals this past week (post next Wednesday), and all I have to say is thank goodness for perennials, or the harvest would look pretty bleak in the fall. This has been one insane year.
Don’t be a stranger lady! And start blogging again. 😉

I’ll try to not be a stranger I started a new job in March and I’ve been trying to catch up on my life that went by the wayside during the year I was working at another place.. I didnt do much of anything other than eat, sleep & work for a year straight.. it was brutal..
I actually have had the rhubarb longer than just about anything in my yard.. I planted 2 plants in a flower bed about 12 or 14 years ago.. I’ve split it many times and shared some & killed some.. lol.. I got another really dark red variety about 6 or 7 years ago & have split it a couple times so I have several of those too.. I’ll have to share a pic with you sometime.. on my blog most likely. 🙂
Its time to start harvesting.. I need to get busy with that.. yikes.. the year is half gone.. crazy life!
