When we came down to Florida in January, I hauled along my camera equipment envisioning lots of picture taking time!
The best laid plans…
I did manage a few pictures that I would like to share with you. Except for the ducks, egret, pelicans and blue heron, I am not 100% certain what type of birds these are. From what I saw on the Audubon and Cornell sites, I am pretty sure what I have labeled, I have labeled correctly. I could use some help with the ones I am unsure of, and if I misidentified any birds, I would appreciate the correction!
The Great Egret This one I am sure about! I took this picture back in December, and you can find more Great Egret pictures by clicking here.
Brown Pelicans Another one I am sure of, and you can find more Brown Pelican photographs by clicking here!
These are ducks. 😀 They are constantly around the canal drains in our subdivision. Max has them well trained though. If they see him coming down the sidewalk on his walk, they immediately move to the water or across the street, or suffer the wrath of the canine wonder. He would do a duck serious bodily harm if he caught one.
Great Blue Heron
Now it gets a little dicier with identification. I “think” these are herons. Heck they could even be blue herons. I just don’t know for sure.
I am almost positive this is a cormorant. The bent bills makes me think this.
I will say this is one crotchety bird. The one sitting down in the picture above lives around one of the canals and will not move for anyone or anything.
Max makes all the birds fly away – even those big herons – with his barking and aggressive lunging. This cormorant? Pfffffffffft Max can go take a hike on the look this bird gives him. That bird is flying no where, and moving for no one, and Max seems to respect that because it is the only bird we have here Max does not go Cujo on.
