Hubby and I are gearing up to furnish our Florida condo. We haven’t been there since we closed in April, but we do have someone checking on the place (the water is turned off, and there is nothing in the condo) and picking up mail for us.
We plan on going down in November or December and leaving Max with his doggie sitter for a few weeks while we paint and get furniture. We will then come home for Christmas and New Years, and then head back down the middle of January. The more we can accomplish without the pooch, the better.
Since we will not have a pooch in the backseat the first time down, we are packing the vehicle full and taking a lot of duplicates from around our house, as well as some new purchases. Hubby is taking all of his old silverware down, and we had discussed what pots and pans to take down. I have Revere Ware that is 30 years old, he has some professional Calphalon that is at least 10 years old. Both are in great shape! And, we constantly argue whose pots and pans we should get rid of because there are too many in the cupboards. I think we should get rid of his Calphalon, he thinks my Revere Ware should go.
One solution to our bickering is to take one of the pots and pan sets down to Florida. But then I remembered that we don’t have gas in the condo. Apparently natural gas is coming to new Florida housing slowly but surely, but it isn’t everywhere, and it isn’t in older condos like ours. At home we have a natural gas cook top (and convection oven, so the best of all cooking worlds!). I have no idea what pots and pans would be best for an electric cook top! Will either the Revere Ware or Calphalon work? Considering Hubby loves to cook, is there a better option?
Any and all help and input is very much appreciated!
What pots and pans work best on an electric cook top!?

Ok I may be wrong because I cook on a gas range with a convection oven also. However, I think unless you have an induction burner (which needs magnetic cookware) you can use any type of cookware. Personally I prefer Calphalon to Revere Ware, sorry Ann 🙂

hey! Whose side are you on!?

I went through this when I moved here to Texas.
Living in Florida (Miami) I cooked w/ gas. and had always cooked w/ gas.
Here in TX the house came w/ a flat glass (electric) cook top and I was all freaked out!
I use BOTH Revere Ware AND Calphalon on the glass. Also T-Fal, WearEver and All Clad.
These have ceramic, aluminum and S Steel exterior (I don’t own copper).
I do NOT use:
My Camerons stove top smoker-it was a ‘wavy’ bottom and it’s rectangular.
My ‘old fashioned’ Lodge cast iron grill pan-scratches the glass. (And afraid I’ll drop it)
ANY pot or pan that is larger or smaller than the cooking circle-I read that using odd sized pans can cause damage to cook top.
So THERE! You are going to have to flip a coin. 🙂 LOL 🙂
P.S. I have had some ceramic exterior coating chip off when using excessively high heat. My fault-not the stove’s.

Sorry-is your Revere Ware ONLY copper bottom?
If it is there STILL should be no problem. I just don’t happen to own any.
Ann says
Yes, the Revere Ware is only copper bottom. Thanks for all the info, Barbee. He has a few Lodge pans but he’d never bring them down – they weigh a ton as you said!

If you get rid of your Revere Ware, you can send it to me! Im a 100% Stainless lover.. I have almost a full set of Revere ware that my grandmother gave me when I was 18 (pushing 52 now) and I wouldnt take anything in the world for it.. I have a full extended set of Pro Calphalon but only use it for certain dishes.
If I had to choose one over the other, I’ll choose Revere Ware any day… You’ll never have to replace it.. ever.. unless you just want to update.. Your Calphalon on the other hand will last another 5.. maybe 10 years and it’ll need to be replaced.
But even more than what my preference is… there are just some dishes that dont cook right in Calphalon or other teflon coated skillets & pan. You can crisp foods up in stainless that you just cant get in a teflon or calphalon..

I too prefer the Revere Ware, Kim. Hubby does not. He does use my Magnalite GHC –pan that was my great-grandmother’s, but he seldom touches my Revere Ware.

Ann I have both sets however mine too does not have the copper bottom & I cook on a glass/ceramic stove top. I will say that I use both depending on what I am cooking but I find I use the Calphalon way more than the Revere Ware. Good luck with the move!

Use triclad Revereware, Copper bottom will add to upkeep. Viking even has a 5-ply clad bottom. Also, a flat bottom, close to the burner size, is necessary. What grade are the Calphalons? They have a Select, etc. and some are not PTFE free. Some cannot be dishwashed w/o depleting the nonstick.
