DIY Halloween String Art Trio: Ghost, Pumpkin and Bat
Halloween doesn’t have to be spooktacular, sometimes it can be cute and whimsical. The ghost, pumpkin and bat in this string art project work well as a grown-up Halloween art project that is a touch fanciful.
Using the template below, you can make the trio together, separate the pieces to individual art, or print out the pattern multiple times to make three pumpkins, bats, pumpkins, or mix and match!
DIY Halloween String Art Trio: Ghost, Pumpkin and Bat Supplies
● 1 pallet board (approximately 13″ x 5.5″)
● Tack Hammer
● Wire Nails ( 7/8″, 17 gauge)
● DMC Black 310
● DMC Orange 3853
● DMC White
● DMC Green (miscellaneous green that was on hand was used in this craft)
● Template, printed on PAPER, not card stock
● Sanding Block (if necessary)

● Gather all the crafts and tools you will need for your project.
● On a flat surface, begin your work. Place a towel under your board to protect the surface and to quiet the pounding.
● Place your pattern on your board and decide which way you’d like your pieces. Cut apart to rearrange if necessary. Adhere with tape or just nail down.
● Begin to nail your piece.
● Follow the pattern and space your nails about 1/2″ apart.
● Once you have completed nailing your pattern,
WASH YOUR HANDS because the nails are dirty!
● Remove your paper pattern by gently pulling UP and then tear off. Pulling up will help to eliminate stray paper pieces around your nails. If you have stray paper pieces, use tweezers to remove.
● Begin to string your pieces. Tie a knot on one of the nails. Then tie another (double knot) and leave the tail.
● In a random zigzag pattern, string your board with one color. Begin with the bottom color (orange, then green for the pumpkin; white, then black for the ghost) and string until you are happy with the results.
● Occasionally you’ll want to wrap your string all the way around a nail head to prevent it from unraveling while working. Once you’re pleased with your string, try to “end” near where you began and you will outline your piece.
● To outline your piece and tie it all together, carry your string to one nail, completely wrap it around the nail head and carry it to the next nail. Complete this on the outside of the nail.
● When you return to your finishing point, reverse direction to create an inside outline around the nails.
● When you are done with the outline, tie the two pieces of string together – the beginning and ending tail. Trim the ends.
● Repeat for all pieces and when you are complete you can display and enjoy!
● Please note, the pattern has been updated to spaced out the ghost eyes, mouth and to make him a bit longer.
