A few weeks ago, Hubby and I went up to Niagara Falls. In addition to the Falls, we also spent time on Goat Island and Three Sisters Islands as well as the Devil’s Hole State Park.
The Devil’s Hole State Park overlooks the Devil’s Hole Rapids, encompassing 42 acres of cleared and wooded land along the Niagara Gorge adjacent to the Whirlpool Park. You enter off the Robert Moses parkway, and can go to the overlook, or down the 400+ stairs on the staircase, 300′ down to view the rapids. A walk down into the gorge, back up at Whirlpool State Park and back to Devil’s Hole is a bit over 2 miles and allows you some spectacular gorge views.
We had Mr Max with us, and after seeing how “well” he did with stairs at Letchworth, we didn’t even entertain going down the stairs. They are a bit hazardous. We just went down to the look-out which offers some fabulous views too!
These are all pictures of the fall foliage over in Canada.
The Niagara Power Project is just a short way down and provides spectacular views up and down the gorge. These pictures I took from the Devil’s Hole State Park overlook.

The boaters are out fishing! I confess until my cousin visited a few weeks ago while he was salmon fishing, I didn’t know that the mouth of Lake Ontario provided fantastic salmon and trout fishing! Clearly all the boaters knew though. They were out in force the weekend we were at Devil’s Hole!
If you visit Niagara Falls, don’t forget the New York State parks that surround them! You will be very glad you chose to take in the beauty that surrounds the area.
