How to Make Banana Split Pudding Shots Recipe
1. Prep – Line a baking sheet with 36 souffle cups.
2. Make the pudding – In three separate mixing bowls, place one flavor of pudding mix, along with one cup of milk, in each bowl. Using a hand mixer, mix until fully combined.
3. Add the alcohol – In the banana pudding, add the 99 Bananas and whisk by hand until thick. In the vanilla pudding, add the cherry brandy and whisk by hand until thick. In the chocolate pudding, add the chocolate liqueur and whisk until thick.
4. Add the food coloring – In the banana pudding, add the yellow food coloring. In the vanilla pudding, add the red food coloring. Mix both bowls separately until there are no color streaks.
5. Add the whipped topping – Add one 8-ounce container of cool whip to each bowl and mix until no white streaks appear.
6. Chill – Layer one flavor at a time in the souffle containers, filling the container a third of the way with each flavor. Chill in the fridge for 4 hours.
7. Serve – Garnish with whipped cream, nuts, chocolate syrup, and a cherry. Serve and enjoy!
Tips and Variations for making this Banana Split Pudding Shots Recipe:
● Use any brand you like – I use Jello brand pudding (instant, sugar-free, or fully-loaded) and Cool Whip (regular) brand whipped topping as they are the most popular and easy to find. However, you can use any brand of instant pudding or thawed whipped topping you prefer.
● Use less milk – If you would like to make your pudding shots thicker, you can add as little as ½ a cup of milk per small pudding box. However, I wouldn’t go any lower than that.
● Other whipped cream options – I usually use full fat whipped cream, but you can use fat-free or lite whipped cream as well. Just note that a lighter whip cream will make the pudding shot also lighter.
● 99 Bananas schnapps is used, you could substitute Banana Jack or Banana Rum if you prefer.
● You can substitute Godiva Dark Chocolate Liqueur for the Godiva Milk Chocolate Liqueur if you like. Of course, you may also use your favorite chocolate liqueur instead of Godiva.
● You can add a few drops of banana extract if you like.
● You could add a few drops of cherry extract to the cherry portion of this pudding shot if you like cherry.
● There is no longer a cherry instant pudding available. There is a strawberry instant pudding if you prefer strawberry in your banana splits as that it a traditional banana split flavor. However, if you do this, adjust to a strawberry liqueur or cordial and skip the cherry brandy.
● Use whatever nuts you prefer- crushed party peanuts, pecans, walnuts, almonds, are all good choices.
● Layer the flavors how you like – No need to follow exactly how I layer the flavors in this pudding shot recipe.
● Alternate using a mixer and mixing with your hands – If you whip the milk and pudding using a hand mixer, then stir by hand when adding the alcohol, you’ll get the pudding shots to set up quicker.
● How many shots does this make? – How many shots you yield from this recipe depends on your shots containers and if you’re capping them. If you use a 2.5-ounce container, you will get approximately 36 pudding shots, 2-ounce containers, you will end up with approximately 42 pudding shots (uncapped). If you use larger containers, you will yield even fewer individual servings. Just note that you will want to put less in the container if you are placing lids on them and more if you are not.
● Make a smaller portion is not easy with this recipe. There is a reason I call it a party recipe as it makes a lot!
● Storage – Store in individual pudding shot containers, covered, in the fridge for up to 5 days.
● Reheating – In order to bring a frozen pudding shot to an edible temperature, let them thaw naturally. Do not heat them to quicken the process as this could ruin the shots. (Note: I do not advise freezing a pudding shot although some people do. You can freeze covered for up to three months, but the consistency will be changed.)
Common Questions About Banana Split Pudding Shots Recipe
Can You Freeze Pudding Shots?
You can freeze pudding shots if need be, but it is not something I advise as the consistency will change.
How Long Do Pudding Shots Last?
I try not to keep my pudding shots longer than five days in the fridge (or past three months in the freezer). With dairy being involved, I tend to err on the side of caution.
