Tips and variations for making these Grinch Windowpane Cookies:
● To get the candy to its powdered or chopped state, put the unwrapped candy in a ziplock freezer bag. Then, put the bag into another ziplock bag. You want double the protection. Once it is double bags, hit them with a meat or rubber mallet until crushed. The hard candy will pierce the bag.
● Instead of parchment paper, use a silicone mat. It really works great as after the candy cools, you can just lift the cookies off the silicone mat.
● If the candy gets too sticky, simply sprinkle powdered sugar on it to keep it dry.
● How to make vanilla extract.
● Do NOT substitute margarine for butter.
● In the United States 8 tablespoons of butter = 1 stick, and 1 stick of butter = ½ a cup. This recipe uses two (2) sticks of butter or 1 cup.
● You can dust lightly with confectioners sugar while these cookies are still warm, but do realize it will tone down the bright green color of your cookies.
● Store leftovers in an airtight container on the counter for up to five days. Place parchment paper between the cookies to keep them from sticking to each other.
● The final product should not be frozen; the candy loses its integrity during the thaw-out process. You can freeze the dough to make later. Once the dough is prepared and wrapped in plastic, simply place it in the freezer for up to 6 months. Thaw in the fridge before rolling it out.
● Ingredients for this recipe are commonly found at your local grocery store.
