● The recipe, as shown, used the special dark Hershey’s kisses, as it perfectly colors matched with the York peppermint patties, which are dark chocolate too. If you prefer, milk chocolate kisses or vampire Hershey kisses also work well.
● Use food gel for the frosting colorant for brighter, more vivid coloring.
● Oreo Thin cookies are a good option if you are not a fan of York peppermint patties.
● Remember to allow the chocolate time to dry, so you do not make fingerprints in the chocolate.
● If you do not wish to use tub frosting, make your own classic vanilla buttercream frosting, and color the frosting to match the witch’s hats.
● Cover leftovers with plastic wrap and store in a cool place or airtight in the refrigerator – depending on your cupcake recipe used.

● 3 Small Bowls
● Rubber Spatula
● Ziploc Bags (you can use a piping bag and tip if you like)
Homemade Halloween Witch’s Hat Cupcake Toppers Directions:
1. Unwrap the peppermint patties and the Hershey’s kisses.
2. Divide the frosting equally into three separate bowls.
3. Add about 10 drops of the gel food colors into each bowl and mix vigorously. You might have to add more to get the exact shade.
4. Pour each colored frosting into a small Ziploc baggie or a piping bag and snip off the ends.
5. Lay your peppermint patties and squirt a little bit of the tinted frosting on the center of each peppermint patty.
6. Gently press down the frosting with a Hershey’s kiss. The frosting should ooze out slightly, creating a border for the witch’s hat.
7. Repeat with the rest.
8. Let the frosting firm up for about 30 minutes.
9. You can prepare the Witch’s Hat Cupcake Topper days in advance. Store it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. If the weather is too hot, keep them in the refrigerator.
