Red, White, and Blue Jello Shots Recipe
Jello shots are a very popular party “drink”. Everywhere you turn someone has a Jello shot recipe. But, in a bit of irony, most “Jello” shot recipes are not made with “Jello” (Kraft) at all… they are made with unflavored gelatin, usually Knox (Unilever) or store brand. The Jello shots made with unflavored gelatin rely on the liquor for the taste.
Usually, Jello shots are made in soufflé cups with lids for transport, or in shot glasses (which allows for rimming the Jello shot). But sometimes, you may want to change it up.
Jello Shots are pretty easy to make. This is the basic recipe anyone can follow:
● 1 small box of Flavored Gelatin (there are others with unflavored Gelatin, but this is the basics)
● 1 cup water, boiling
● 1 cup of: vodka/rum/tequila/whiskey/schnapps/liqueurs
The 1 cup of some sort of spirits is the key. The different flavor combinations of alcoholic beverages combined with the flavored gelatin are what makes the tasty jello shot varieties.
Red, White, and Blue Jello Shots Notes:
● This is written out in red, white, and blue (bottom to top). It is shown in blue, white, and red (bottom to top). You can also layer white on the bottom, blue, red, or white, red, blue. You choose.
● You can use cherry, strawberry, raspberry, etc for the red. Whichever flavor you enjoy most. Any gelatin brand will work (it doesn’t have to be Jell-O).
● Make very certain one layer is completely firmed up before moving on to the next layer. The next layer will bleed into the layer below it if that lower layer is not completely firmed up.
● This is made in a pan and then cut. If you would like to make it in souffle cups, you can. More work to fill, but perfect proportions for your holiday guests!

Red, White, and Blue Jello Shots Recipe Mise en Place:
● Medium Pot
● Measuring Cup
● 8″x8″ Pan
● Cooking Oil
● Wooden Spoon or Silicone Spatula
● Knife
● Cutting Board
Red, White, and Blue Jello Shots Recipe Instructions:
● Red Layer: Steps 1-2: In a small mixing bowl add ½ of a gelatin powder packet and add ¼ cup cold water. Soak the powder for 2 minutes.
● Steps 3-5: Add 1 cup of hot water and strawberry gelatin. Whisk until everything is dissolved.
● Steps 6-7: Add ¼ cup raspberry vodka. Whisk to combine.
● Steps 8-10: Spray 8″x 8″ Pan with cooking spray oil and wipe. This will leave just enough oil to keep the gelatin from sticking to the pan. Pour red gelatin mixture into the pan and place in the fridge for about 30 minutes, or until very firm. If you pour the next gelatin mixture before the prior layer beneath is firm, they will bleed into each other.
● White Layer: Steps 1-2: In a small mixing bowl add 1 packet of gelatin powder and add ¼ cup cold water. Soak the powder for 2 minutes.
● Steps 3-5: Add 1 cup of hot water and ¼ cup vanilla vodka. Whisk until everything is dissolved.
● Steps 6-7: Add ½ cup sweetened condensed milk. Whisk to combine.
● Steps 8-9: Pour white gelatin mixture into the 8″ x 8″ pan and place in the fridge for about 30 minutes, or until very firm.
● Blue Layer: Steps 1-2: In a small mixing bowl add ½ of a gelatin powder packet and add ¼ cup cold water. Soak the powder for 2 minutes.
● Steps 3-5: Add 1 cup of hot water and berry blue gelatin. Whisk until everything is dissolved.
● Steps 6-7: Add ¼ cup raspberry vodka. Whisk to combine.
● Steps 8-9: Pour blue gelatin into pan and place in the fridge for about 30-45 minutes, or until very firm. You can also cover the pan with plastic wrap and let it set up overnight.
● Steps 10-11: Take a knife and gently go around the edges of the Jello. Place a large plate or cutting board on top of the pan and flip over and lift up the pan. The Jello shots should slide right out of the pan. Cut the gelatin with a round cookie cutter or into squares with a large knife.
● Garnish with whipped cream and sprinkles, if desired, before serving.

You can substitute any liquid for the vodka, Stephanie. Just realize it will change the taste.
