Last week Hubby and I went to the Entenmann’s Bakery Outlet. There on display were Sara Lee Golden Fudge Cakes for $1.99. They looked intriguing, so we picked up a box. While we had never tried Sara Lee Golden Fudge Cakes before, we honestly didn’t realize they were a new product! That realization came last Sunday when we spotted the $1 off Sara Lee Golden Fudge Cakes coupon in the Sunday Inserts!
After realizing how new these were, I decided to write up my opinion of them so you would have some idea as to whether or not they were worth trying – especially since a $1 off coupon makes the buy enticing.

Sara Lee Golden Fudge Cakes My Opinion
These are little chocolate covered white cakes with an additional layer of chocolate-fudgy filling across the top. Now as many of you know, I love, love, love chocolate candy. I do not, however, like chocolate in just about anything else. That means I am predisposed to dislike a chocolate dessert. I also am not a cake fan. Every once in a white at a birthday celebration is fine, but cake isn’t my go to dessert either.
And yet somehow I still manage to have these er, generous, hips and fanny. Life isn’t fair I tell you!
Anyhoooooo getting back to the Sara Lee Golden Fudge Cake – so, I don’t care for chocolate outside of candy, and I don’t particularly like cake. You’d expect me to slam these, right? Actually, I won’t. The chocolate covering isn’t very good, but it is no worse than what Hostess used to put on a Ho-Ho. A bit thinner than Ho-Ho covering, but pretty much it tastes the same.
The white cake was actually very good when you consider this is a prepackaged pastry. Fairly light, it doesn’t compete with the chocolate-fudgy filling on top. And that chocolate top filling? The very best part. It is smooth and creamy and for some reasons tastes a lot more “real” than the chocolate covering.
While we won’t go out of our way to buy these weekly, if you can get them for $1.99 or less (8 portions, so that would make each cake a quarter in a lunchbox), I’d definitely tell you to give them a try. You may like them. In any event I don’t think your kids will dislike them and I doubt they would go to waste.
Have you tried Sara Lee Golden Fudge Cakes? What did you think?

I did try them. I now call them ‘Mazin’ Cakes. Ridiculous how good they are. That 200 cal. keeps me wary, but I so want to build a dessert using them as a base. Put two together cover with ice cream, whipped topping and SPLAM! 600 cal. dessert! …Or something similar. Yikes.

Michael, I am going to share that idea with my Hubby. I am suuuuuuuuuuuuure he will be all over that.
