Hot Buttered Rum Recipe

This recipe for Hot Buttered Rum is simple, yet delicious. An old-fashioned drink, hot buttered rum is the perfect adult beverage on a cold winter night.

Hot Buttered Rum Recipe

Everyone has a hot buttered rum recipe! This traditional cold weather hot cocktail goes back hundreds of years. Hot buttered rum is defined as a mixed drink containing rum, butter, hot water or cider, that may have an additional sweetener (rum is pretty sweet, but so is molasses), and sometimes spices – such as nutmeg, cinnamon, or cloves. This recipe uses nutmeg for garnish, but if you prefer cinnamon or cloves, they will work too!

Notes:

● You do not have to rim this glass. You can however, and sugar or brown sugar for the dry, rum for the wet is a good choice. Rimming a glass is simple. If you are not sure how to do so, click here for instructions on how to rim a cocktail glass.

● You can use more, or less, butter to suit your taste!

Hot Buttered Rum Ingredients:

● 1 tsp Molasses
● 1 tsp Brown Sugar
● ½ TBSP Butter
● 1 oz Spiced Rum
● 6 oz Water, boiling
● Whipped Cream
● Pinch Nutmeg (for garnish, optional)

Hot Buttered Rum Mise en Place:

● Pot
● Measuring Spoons
● Measuring Cup
● Spoon
● Jigger
● Mug

Hot Buttered Rum Directions:

● In a mug, combine molasses, brown sugar, and butter.
● Pour the Spiced Rum over those ingredients.

● Add boiling water until the cup is approximately ¾ filled.
● Stir until butter is melted.

● Top with whipped cream and spice garnish, and serve
