One of the things I like about shopping in Florida is the ability to purchase wine and liquor in the grocery store. The selection, while not that of a liquor store, is usually adequate, and more importantly, generally inexpensive! If I want a $100 bottle of wine (which I don’t), I would head over to the local liquor store for a nice selection. However, if I want 50, $10 or less bottles of wine to choose from in a small area, I can find a pretty decent mix in the liquor aisle of my local Publix or Winn-Dixie.
A few weeks ago, Hubby picked up a bottle of Refresh Turning Leaf Moscato for under $5 at Winn-Dixie. At that price, hopes were not high, but hey, you never know! I was certainly willing to take one for the team and give it a go so I could report back to all of you.
Vintner Description:
This Moscato is lighter in style with aromas of peach and orange blossom and contains a delightful fizziness.
Pairing ideas: You love spicy food, try pouring this Moscato. From salsas to curries to your favorite wings, the sweeter flavor and cooling fizz will provide a tasty balance to those hot foods. It’s also a great match for creamy cheeses like Brie or as a fresh pairing for a favorite dessert.
My opinion:
As many of you know, I like sweet wines. Moscatos are some of my favorite wines as they tend to be cheap, and very agreeable. In my opinion wine seldom gets better than cheap and agreeable. The Refresh Turning Leaf Moscato certainly was cheap, and it certainly was sweet. A bit fizzy, I was a tad distracted by the effervescent quality of this wine. And, it tasted pretty bad when it warmed up, as it took on a heavier, almost syrupy, taste. However, the light, bubbly, fruity taste when straight from the chilled bottle made this a fun drinking wine when cold.
Recommendation: If you can get the Refresh Turning Leaf Moscato for under $7.50 a 750 ml bottle, I would definitely suggest buying and trying provided you like white, fizzy Moscatos.
As always, drink responsibly and please don’t drink and drive.

Thanks for taking one for the team
I want to drink wine lol I’ve tried some yet I’m not one to taste the ‘oak’ flavor lol or smell the ‘floral’ scent. I’d never make it as a wine conasoure. I don’t like bitter so finding your review is great. However I don’t like fizz. Can you recommend a sweet, non fizzy yet cheap wine 🙂

Beth, I am not a connoisseur either! Hubby does a lot better, and I’ve been to classes to teach me, but for the most part I find it, ummm pretentious. Saying that, next week’s review WILL be all about the notes. LOL I guess I get it sometimes.
Here are a few cheap, decent wines for you to try: Confectioner’s Angel Cake Chardonnay and Brotherhood Riesling Wine – one of my all time favorite, under $20 a bottle, wines.
I’ll try and do a few more Moscato reviews as those are generally under $10, and if you like sweet, they can offer a tremendous bang for the buck.
