Today I would like to discuss Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum and share a cocktail recipe with you.
Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum is cask-aged super premium white rum with a dry house style. A blend of rums aged 2-5 years exclusively in former American Whiskey White Oak Casks, triple filtered to enhance smoothness and remove the color, Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum is fermented and distilled to ~95% ABV the Dominican Republic.
The rum is distilled from a wash of fermented molasses derived from sugarcane grown in the Dominican Republic. The fermented wash is passed through Brugal’s column-still twice, and then aged in the former whiskey barrels. In the final process, Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum is triple filtered to remove the amber color imparted by the oak barrels, resulting in a perfectly clear rum.
All I can say, is this is one smooooooth rum. While rum is just about my favorite liquor to have as part if a mixed drink, drinking it straight-up has never been for me. I dislike the bite. Sure most rums smell great, and taste wonderful mixed, but the cut at the end on the back of my throat? Not worth drinking it neat.
The Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum is different. Perfectly clear in color, the Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum has a nice crisp, smokey oak mixed with vanilla taste that allowed me to drink a finger of Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum neat, and really enjoy it!
I made the Santo Libre Cocktail Recipe I posted below, and asked Hubby to “take a sip and try it”. Annnnnd that was the last I saw of that beverage! Hubby is not a big rum guy, but he definitely liked the crisp, smokey, light vanilla-y taste of the Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum.
I think the biggest concern with the Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum is how would be easy to over-consume. Yeah, it is that good, that smooth.
I found this recipe online at Brugal USA and of course I had to modify it to make it my own cocktail. Was there ever any doubt?

Clearly I rate the Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum as a buy. While not the sweet-sweet of the normal rums I enjoy, it also doesn’t have the cutting bite so many sweet rums have at the finish. The Brugal Especial ads to the cocktail, it doesn’t detract. Selling for approximately $20 for a 750ML (YMMV of course), the Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum is worth every penny! I know Hubby and I will be purchasing it in the future.
Have you tried Brugal Especial Extra Dry Rum? How did you like it?
Disclosure: Brugal sent me a bottle of Especial Extra Dry Rum to try in a kit with wine accessories. No other compensation was provided. All opinions are strictly my own.
As always, drink responsibly and please don’t drink and drive.
